SG Wannabe

SG Wannabe is a popular South Korean balad grouyp which consist of three members namely Kim Yong Jun (leader and subvocal), Kim Jin Ho (lead vocal), and Lee Seok Hoon (vocal). The SG in the group’s name represents “Simon and Garfunkel”. The group had debuted in the year 2004

with their song, “Timeless”. The trio had quickly become popular at the same time with their song, and with the music video that was played on cellular phone all over Korea, and their album had topped the charts. But unlike the other groups, they had decided to lessen their promotions through the use of music shows or even their own videos. The group has once stated that they want the people to care more about the music rather than their own faces. Their most anticipated fourth album, The Sentimental chord” released on the 6th of April, 2007, almost a year since the released of their 3rd album. Once again, they had amazed the people with their new title song, “Arirang” that contains classic instruments of Korea playing as the background music of the song. With the release of their 4th album with their title song, they had got the number one spot in the Bugs Chart as well as the Korea monthly chart. The album had also ranked number one on the “Top 20 Album Sales (May 2007) alongside with the 44, 618 copies sold and 125,450 sold altogether. They had also released two special albums namely, “SG Wanna Be+” and “Story In New York.” Both of the special albums had managed to be successful as well, following SG Wannabe’s popularity and success. Nearly the end of the year, SG Wannabe was then awarded their second daesang in the Golden Disk Awards, ranking as the top artist of the year. Marking the almost 200,000 copies sold their album; The Sentimental Chord was said to be the best-selling album of 2007 in Korea. In addition to that, there are some several changes that had also occurred within the group, especially when their member Chae Dong Ha had decided to leave the group in order to pursue his own career. As of the 23rd of April, 2008, SG Wannabe’s 5th album had reached 85,000 pre-orders and they are still counting. The album was stated to be released on the 24th alongside with the 14 new tracks including the Japanese version of their song, I Miss You. The both version of the song were recorded with their former member Chae Dong Ha. The Korean version was recorded with four people and the Japanese was recorded by the original members. The group’s new member, Lee Suk Hoon had also made his debut performance on the 24th of April on M! Countdown with their first track, “Lalala” included in the new album. In the year 2009, the group had released, Gift from SG Wannabe. They had also released another song that eventually becomes famous for having its part on the OST of the drama, Fate Reverse.
